OUR JOURNEY
We started Ravi Hybrid Seeds in the year 1998 with the objective to provide the best seed and after sale service to the Indian farmer. We first started as a retailer for large multinational seed companies during the infancy of the concept of hybrid seeds in the country. We played a crucial role in the transformation of agriculture from the practice of cultivating land races to adoption of superior higher yielding hybrids. After growing as a chain of 22 retail outlets and building a reputable and reliable farmer network, we began to witness the changing landscape of vegetable seed industry to the detriment of farmers with new diseases and pests proving destructive to the incomes and livelihoods of farmers. Recognizing the need for stronger genetics that can better survive and deliver under these growing biotic and abiotic stresses, and to bring about drastic innovation to the process of plant genetic improvement, the direction of our company shifted towards research and development. Today we boast one of the most innovative and successful research facilities in India, delivering to the farmers some of the best hybrids that thrive under the varied challenges they face. Our ever increasing partnerships with more than a 1000 retailers and wholesalers across the country helps us in our journey of bridging the gap between the possibilities of science and the realities of the fields of farmers.
OUR MISSION
We believe in the potential of genetics to solve some of the toughest agricultural challenges today and to create new opportunities of revenue for the farmers. Our plant breeders are working hard at improving the income potential of crops while at the same time, predicting and solving the problems of tomorrow. All the while, our team of more than 200 trained personnel regularly interact with farmers on the ground advising them on the latest agricultural practices and diagnosing the crops and suggesting timely remedies. Case in point, we’ve had tremendous success in influencing chilli cultivation practices in Telangana where the farmers now follow scientifically balanced plant nutrition, aggressively take more preventative actions and use plant protection chemicals judicially to significantly improve yields and profitability. It is our mission to similarly harness the synergy between the power of genetics and smart cultivation practices to maximize productivity and cut down on expenses.
OUR VISION
Agriculture in India for the most part has been an activity of self subsistence. A country which, in the very recent past, has seen droughts, countless tragic farmer bankruptcies and a general lack of enthusiasm in the farming community. With the advent of high yielding hybrids, improvements to our irrigation, transportation and communication systems in the last couple of decades, a small portion of the agricultural sector adopted steps towards profitability. This was done by improvements in cultivation practices and by taking up cultivation of vegetables and export oriented cash crops like dry chillies. While this is a welcome development, challenges await. There still is a large section of farmers cultivating crops with no plan towards profitability. Even the early adopters that were doing well face a new and growing set of problems. In that regard, we believe that developing farmers, informed of various possibilities and armed with solutions, helps us edge towards our vision of transforming agriculture into a profitable business from a mere subsistence activity.
